Low sperm volume
Oligospermia is the condition of having less than the normal number of spermatozoa in the semen or low sperm volume. What can cause this problem? We can blame different factors, starting with biological and finishing with environmental. The factors causing this problem include age, dangerous lifestyle, consuming drugs, lack of adequate nutrition, smoking, malnutrition, extra weight, riding a bike, some genetic factors, environmental conditions, testicular exposure to heat, exposure to heavy metals, treatment with the help of radiation and some others.
It is not recommended to use hot tubs, going to saunas very often as the exposure of testicles to heat may result in temporary low sperm production. Sometimes frequent exposure to heat may decrease fertility for good and all.
Sperm volume and motility may also drop if men are heavy smokers. The worst thing is not the fact that smokers make the lifespan of a sperm shorter but the fact that smoking may provoke genetic changes in their offspring. In addition, smoking decreases men's sexual drive.
It is not scientifically proven yet but some evidence show that people with extra weight are more likely to have oligospermia.
Man's fertility may be at risk if men are exposed to chemicals, such as dioxins, PCP'sdieldrin, furans, aldrin, and DDT as well as to benzene, xylene, ethylbenzene, and toluene, which belong to plastic softening chemicals.
Oligospermia may be a result of exposure to heavy metals. Such heavy metals as lead, arsenic and cadmium are very dangerous for men's health as their influence on membrane protecting the head of the sperm, acrosome, is hazardous.
